My first day on Island 106 was July 14th, 2008. From my very first day, I’ve heard the same question and statement. “How will a gay, black man be successful on a radio station in Panama City?”
I think what people forget is that we, The Miguel Show Family and Island 106 have a connection. We are a family. We cry together, we laugh together and we get mad and disagree with each other. But at the end of the day, we love each other through our faults.
Winning the The News Herald’s Best of Bay Media Personality of 2014 is great. It’s a wonderful award that we can all share together.
The award has a deeper meaning to me. Winning the award says that we are family. You took the time out of your busy days of shuttling kids around and going from one job to the next to vote for me. Thank you.
Together we have proven that Panama City and Bay County is more than being the Redneck Riveria. We are a beautiful, diverse city that doesn’t care about labels. We care about people. So the next time someone makes fun of Panama City for being a small, redneck town, you tell them to hush. :)
Of course it goes without saying that I would not be able to do my job if it weren’t for these two wonderful, talented women beside me. Holly and Mandy thank you so much for going on this adventure with me and putting on The Miguel Show.
Thank you Panama City! I am proud to be your Best of Bay Media Personality of the year!
